The Unsecrets of a Junior Teacher

About me

When I was a young high school student I was sure I would never want to be a teacher.  I imagined all that work they do after school marking paper after paper or lab report after lab report from teenagers rambling on, using poor grammar and spelling, about things they don’t really know much about.  The thought of teaching young kids didn’t even cross my mind.  They required far too much energy.  Finally, in grade 12, I started to realize that I was actually good at teaching and that I enjoyed doing it. I also knew that I enjoyed people and wanted to be doing something where I could be helping people.  I did an about-face, accepted the idea of hours of work after school, and set my mind to being an awesome teacher.

I am currently a secondary teacher in Ontario.  I’m not sure I’m an awesome one yet, but I’m at least a good one and I’m still working at it.  I have been working as an occasional teacher for 3-1/2 years and I love what I do.  Unfortunately the people to whom I must pay my bills do not love the patchy income, so I hope to secure a permanent position sometime soon.  I have been taking a course for my Junior qualifications, and this electronic portfolio is a collection of materials that I have created throughout the course.  It is the final project for the course, which was a good excuse to start my own “unsecrets” website as I’ve wanted to do for a long time.  I still have a lot to learn, so if you happen to have landed here on my website and you have any thoughts or suggestions, please do share them with me by adding comments after my posts.
